The Journey Already Started

168 days to world trip

Why are we doing this?

We are a family from the Netherlands preparing for a world trip in 2026 and 2027. With this blog, we want to take you along on why we are doing this and what lessons we learn along the way. And even if nobody ever reads this blog, it is still fun to write and document our journey.

I also realize that many people before us have written blogs about traveling the world, but I believe every journey is unique and brings its own lessons. And if some of it turns out to be repeated information, then the sentence above still applies.

Our plan is to leave in November 2026. At this moment, that is still 168 days away. Still, I already feel like the journey has started.

A journey does not begin when you step onto a plane, but when you first start thinking about it.

That is why, as a family, we have always tried to live by one simple travel rule: always have a booked holiday to look forward to. Studies have shown that anticipation contributes just as much to happiness as the trip itself.

Our journey is not only a physical one, but perhaps also a mental and emotional journey as a family. And that journey started quite a while ago.

Who are we?

We are the Porankiewicz family. Nicole and Tom are both currently 35 years old. We have two daughters, Ivy and Maci. At the moment they are 5 and 6 years old, and during the world trip they will be 6 and 7.

We live in Limburg, in the Netherlands.

You will not see our daughters on this blog, because we prefer to keep them away from the online world and especially social media so they can decide for themselves later in life when they are old enough.

Life is actually going very well. We are healthy, happily married, have wonderful children, and enjoy work that gives us a lot of freedom.

All the boxes are checked, yet there is still a sense of restlessness. Maybe that comes with our age and generation.
